Crevecoeur Chicken Breed

The oldest of the standard-bred French  fowl, The Crevecoeur chicken breed has a large oval crest and full beard that completely hides its head. Their plumage is a shiny black with greenish tones.

The breed originated in the village of Crevecoeur in the Normandy region. The Crevecoeur chicken breed is a cross of Polish and other chicken breeds. Originally called the Black Polish, the breed was developed for their white egg production and quick weight gain. The Crevecoeur quickly became one of the favorite of the gourmet chicken breeds.
